Workers’ compensation: 2 killed in medical hospital crash

On Behalf of | Feb 4, 2019 | Workers' Compensation |

Most people in California are likely aware that their employers provide them with many benefits. Unfortunately, because some benefits are rarely used, employees may be unsure about exactly what is provided, especially in the case in workers’ compensation benefits following a work-related accident. In the case of a fatality, surviving family members may be unsure where to turn for help.

The family members of three people are now likely working to address their grief after a recent crash of a medical helicopter. Reports indicate that the helicopter was needed to transport a patient from one hospital to another on a day in late January, and the crew was on their way to pick up the patient. Unfortunately, communication with the helicopter was lost at approximately 7:20 a.m.

Three hours later, authorities were able to locate the wreckage of the helicopter. They found debris in a remote area where there are only logging trails. The helicopter was broken apart. The three crew members, two nurses and the pilot, died in the crash.

In the immediate aftermath of an incident such as this, families are typically focused on their grief. However, they are also likely faced with the financial implications of their lost and how that will impact them in the future. Lost wages and funeral expenses can quickly become overwhelming. Fortunately, the workers’ compensation insurance benefits that employers are required to provide often extend to certain family members. Because the process can be complicated — especially in a grief-filled time — many people facing such a loss in California choose to seek guidance from an attorney with experience helping people seek the compensation they deserve.
