Fatal construction accident under investigation

On Behalf of | Apr 22, 2019 | Workers' Compensation |

While all jobs in California and across the country hold some degree of risk of injury, occupations related to construction can be especially dangerous. Those who work with heavy equipment are likely aware of the importance of taking all safety precautions; however, accidents can still happen. Unfortunately, a fatal construction accident in another state is under investigation.

The accident involved the death of a 34-year-old man. Reports indicate that the man was working at a construction site just after 3 a.m. on a day in mid-April. According to reports, workers were attempting to assemble a crane.

Unfortunately, a counterweight, weighing 7.5 tons, fell onto the man. A worker at the site claims that the incident split the man in half. The victim died at the scene of the accident. Another worker at the site was also injured and transported to the hospital, along with two workers who reportedly witnessed the incident.

The deceased worker reportedly leaves behind four children and multiple family members who are devastated by his death. Unfortunately, surviving family members may also face extensive financial complications as a result of lost wages and funeral expenses. Because a construction accident can happen on the safest of sites, employers are required to provide workers’ compensation insurance benefits ,which can help with a variety of different costs following an accident such as this. Those in California who have been injured or lost a loved one as a result of a work-related accident often turn to an experienced attorney to help them seek the compensation to which they are entitled.
