Fatal workplace accident remains under investigation

On Behalf of | Apr 29, 2019 | Workers' Compensation |

When working with heavy machinery, there are multiple safety precautions that must be followed. Unfortunately, even workers in California and across the country who follow all safety recommendations can find themselves involved in a workplace accident. In fact, a woman in another state recently lost her life in an incident at work.

The reported incident is said to have happened on a day in late April. The accident happened at Economy Locker Storage, Co. Reports indicate that the 35-year-old victim was standing on stairs beside what reports describe as in industrial-size meat grinder.

While it is unclear how it happened, the woman fell into the meat grinder. She was discovered by a co-worker who investigated after hearing noises that were unusual come from the machinery. It took first responders several hours to dismantle the machine to retrieve her remains. Representatives from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration are investigating the incident.

Unfortunately, family and friends of the deceased woman are now forced to come to terms with news of her death; in addition to the emotional response to such an unexpected loss, family members must also cope with the financial consequences of her death. For many families, funeral costs in combination with lost wages are often overwhelming. Because of the potential of being involved in a workplace accident, employers in California and across the country are required to provide workers’ compensation insurance benefits. This coverage can help families cope with the many expenses associated with an incident such as this. An attorney with experience with such cases can help the woman’s family seek the compensation they deserve.
