Most people would likely assume that postal workers face relatively few risks while in the workplace. However, many who work for the U.S. Postal Service spend a great deal of time driving, putting them at risk of being involved in a work-related accident should they encounter a negligent driver, for example. In fact, a postal worker in California was recently transported to the hospital after she was reportedly involved in an accident involving a pickup truck.
The incident happened on a day in June. Police reports claim that a female driver was headed west on a California roadway when she failed to stop at a stop sign. Police report that, as a result, the pickup truck struck a southbound USPS truck. The pickup truck ultimately came to a stop in a canal.
The driver of the pickup truck was treated at the scene and declined transportation to the hospital. However, the USPS worker was transported to the hospital by helicopter. A woman who indicated she is the daughter of the latter states that her mother suffered a concussion and several broken bones.
Filing a personal injury lawsuit is an option following an accident in which a person is injured because another driver failed to stop for a stop sign. However, because this appears to be a work-related accident, the postal worker may also be entitled to workers’ compensation insurance benefits under the Federal Employees’ Compensation Act, which can help her with the financial burden an accident such as this can create. An attorney with experience with cases such as this can help this California woman fully understand the benefits to which she may be entitled and take action toward seeking a fair settlement.
