Fatal California work accident under investigation

All jobs, regardless of what they are, hold some degree of risk of injury. Depending on the job, the possibility of suffering a serious — or fatal — injury may be higher. Unfortunately, a government employee in California recently lost his life in a work accident that remains under investigation.

The accident that resulted in the fatality happened during the afternoon hours of a day in early June. According to reports, the worker was on a tow truck when he fell. Unfortunately, he reportedly struck his head in the fall.

Rescue workers performed CPR and attempted to revive the man. Unfortunately, they were unable to do so. The man’s identity was released days afterward. Both the local police department and the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health Administration are investigating the incident.

Even when hazards are well-known and action is taken to avoid them, a work accident such as this can still occur. Because of this, California requires that employers provide workers’ compensation insurance coverage for their employees. In the event of an accident, these benefits can help with the resultant financial burdens, including lost wages and medical costs. In the accident results in a fatality such as in this incident, the benefits often extend to certain family members and include funeral expenses. Because most people are unprepared to negotiate with an insurance company while also coping with their injuries or the loss of a loved one, many request help from an attorney with experience with such cases who can help them seek the benefits to which they may be entitled.
