Work accident: Airport worker dies after vehicle overturns

Millions of people in California and across the world travel by airplane. Though travelers may become upset if their flight is delayed or luggage is lost, few likely consider what goes into ensuring that a trip goes smoothly. Unfortunately, an airline employee in another state recently lost his life in a work accident.

The incident reportedly happened around 10:30 p.m. on a day in mid-August. According to reports, the 24-year-old victim was driving a tug, an airport vehicle used to transport luggage. Reports indicate that the man attempted to avoid hitting a piece of luggage on the tarmac by making a hard right turn.

Unfortunately, he was unable to avoid the luggage. The tug overturned, ejecting the man before pinning him underneath. He was transported to the hospital for treatment buy ultimately passed away as a result of injuries suffered. The incident is reportedly under investigation by the state’s Department of Labor.

Now a family is left coping with the unexpected death of their loved one. Even in the safest of environments, a work accident can still occur, prompting states such as California to require that employers provide workers’ compensation insurance benefits. These benefits can help injured workers and grieving families, in the event of a fatality, cope with the financial consequences of an accident at work. Despite being entitled to compensation, many victims are unprepared for the process in the aftermath of an accident. Fortunately, there are experienced professionals who can guide them through the process, helping them reach a fair settlement with the insurance company.
