Police investigating fatal industrial accident

There are a variety of different potential hazards in workplaces in California and across the country. Many of them are known, allowing workers an opportunity to prepare for them. Others, however, are more unexpected. In fact, a man in another state recently lost his life in an industrial accident involving a dump truck.

Reports indicate that the accident happened around 6 a.m. on a day in mid-October. According to reports. A 72-year-old man started a dump truck to warm it up. While the dump truck idled, he reportedly returned to his personal vehicle.

Unfortunately, it is believed that the dump truck slipped into gear before accelerating forward. The vehicle then struck the driver’s side of the man’s personal vehicle, pinning him between the two, and continued forward for several yards before coming to a stop. One of the man’s co-workers discovered him.

The man died at the scene of the industrial accident. While the police are investigating, fatal workplace accidents are also typically investigated by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. While this investigation can determine whether any violations of work or safety standards led to the incident, it will likely do little to help the man’s family cope with the emotional and financial implications of his loss. Because funeral expenses and lost wages can be overwhelming to families who are already in distress, employers are often required to provide workers’ compensation insurance benefits, which can help with the many expenses associated with a work-related accident; many victims of such accidents in California seek guidance from an experienced professional who can guide them throughout the process.
