Officials investigate fatal work-related incident

On Behalf of | Feb 3, 2020 | Workers' Compensation |

There are likely multiple safety hazards in every workplace in the United States, regardless of the type of work that occurs there. As such, organizations such as the Occupational Safety and Health Administration have regulations in place to protect workers from injuries related to a work-related incident. Because accidents can happen despite these measures, employers in California and across the country are required to provide workers’ compensation insurance benefits; a family in another state may qualify for these following a recent fatal accident.

The incident reportedly happened on a day in January. According to reports, the victim was a 60-year-old man who was described as a senior employee at Techmetals, Inc. Officials believe that the man fell into a tank of liquid chromic acid.

By the time rescue workers arrived, the man’s co-workers had extricated him from the tank and were performing life-saving measures. Despite their efforts, he passed away. The workers who assisted the victim declined to seek hospital treatment after they were decontaminated by a hazmat team. Reports indicate that investigators have not confirmed a cause of death.

While there are questions remaining about the cause of the man’s death, his family may be entitled to workers’ compensation insurance benefits if it was the result of an industrial accident. Unfortunately, many families in California and across the country who have lost their loved ones in a work-related incident are unsure of their options. There are experienced professionals who can help them seek the compensation to which they may be entitled.
