1 killed, 1 seriously injured in industrial accident

Most workers in California and across the country report to work each day, committed to fulfilling their job obligations to the best of their abilities. While doing so they also work to protect their personal safety. Unfortunately, however, even the most safety conscious workers can find themselves the victims of an industrial accident.

In fact, two people were recently involved in such an accident in another state. Reports indicate that the incident happened at a former CoGen plant. The two victims were reportedly working to dismantle a conveyor belt.

Rescue workers were called to the scene during the afternoon hours of a day in June. According to reports, the men were around 80 feet in the air when the assembly — and them with it — fell. One of the victims, a 32-year-old man, died at the scene. The second victim was transported to the hospital by helicopter where he is listed with serious injuries.

The aftermath of an industrial accident such as this often creates burdens for which many victims — including surviving family members in the event of a fatality — are unprepared. While the Occupational Safety and Health Administration will conduct an investigation to discover how the accident happened, victims often face a complicated financial situation as a result of funeral expenses, lost wages, funeral expenses or some combination of all three. Though these costs may be covered by workers’ compensation insurance benefits, those who qualify for these benefits in California can feel unprepared to negotiate with an insurance company. Fortunately, there are experienced professionals who can help them throughout the process.
