Most people in California report to their jobs believing that they will return home in the same condition as they left. However, workplaces often hold a variety of different risks that can jeopardize worker safety. Though actions can be taken to mitigate these risks, they cannot be completely eradicated. For example, an out-of-state industrial accident recently resulted in two fatalities.

The incident happened on a day in late June. According to reports, workers were on the roof of Leprino Foods working on a pipe extension project. Unfortunately, a high pressure pipe reportedly discharged suddenly.

Two men, ages 25 and 27, died instantly according to a report issued by the coroner. Their bodies were recovered by the local fire department. A third victim suffered injuries not believed to be life threatening. Reports indicate that no hazardous materials or gases were released as part of the accident.

The incident remains under investigation by a variety of organizations at the federal, state and local levels. While investigators try to understand exactly what caused the industrial accident, the families of the two deceased men are now left to plan their funerals. Such an incident is often also a financial blow as a result of the expenses associated with these services and loss of income. Though those injured in an work-related incident such as this — and the family members of deceased victims — are potentially entitled to workers’ compensation insurance benefits, many are unsure of the process and feel unprepared to advocate for a fair settlement during their bereavement. As such, many in California seek guidance from an experienced attorney.
