Man suffers severe burns in workplace accident

Some workplace hazards are known. With this knowledge, workers can do their best to avoid them or to take action to protect themselves. Unfortunately, there are some hazards that come about so quickly, workers at risk in California and across the country have no time to recognize the danger let alone take action to avoid it. In fact, a recent workplace accident, which occurred in another state, involved a man who was severely burned in an explosion. It is under investigation.

The incident happened on a day in mid-September. According to reports, an employee of Kessel Construction was working at a job site in a utility trailer. Reports indicate that propane gas filled the trailer. Unfortunately, an ignition source set off an explosion that destroyed equipment and the trailer, and spread debris more than 100 yards away.

Rescue workers who responded to the scene also discovered a single victim of the accident. The man is said to have been severely burned on his arms, chest, neck and head. He was transported to a burn unit in another state by helicopter.

While the accident is under investigation by state officials, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration often conducts investigation following a workplace accident as well. In the meantime, the injured victim has a long recovery ahead of him. Though hospital bills in combination with lost wages could quickly become overwhelming, the man may qualify for workers’ compensation insurance benefits that can help cover the financial concerns related to his injuries. Many California victims of an accident such as this often feel unprepared to seek the compensation they deserve. Fortunately, there are professionals with experience with the process who can help.
