OSHA investigates industrial accident

All jobs in California and across the country hold risks of injury. However, those who work with heavy machinery — regardless of their occupation — may be at additional risk of serious harm. A recent industrial accident that happened in another state has left a man recovering from an arm injury.

The incident happened one afternoon on a day in mid-January. According to reports, the victim, a male who is around 50 years old was working at Stone Ground Bakery. Officials claim that as he was working, his arm became entangled with a bread-baking machine.

First responders claim that co-workers were able to turn off the power to the machine and call 911. Firefighters had to dismantle parts of the machine in order to extricate the man. Though his hand was not severed, reports indicate that it was “badly mangled.” Rescue workers transported to the hospital; fortunately, he is expected to survive. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the incident.

Even the most safety-minded workplaces and employees are not able to completely eliminate the possibility of an industrial accident. Because an accident such as this can result in significant medical bills while a victim also experiences lost wages while focusing on recovery, employers in California and across the country are required to provide workers’ compensation insurance coverage, which can help with many of the financial complications an accident such as this can create. Because the process can be complicated, many seek guidance from an attorney with experience seeking fair compensation. With such help, victims often feel more confident as they seek the benefits they deserve.
