All jobs in California and across the country hold some degree of risk of injury. Some, however, hold greater risks of being more severely injured. For example, first responders are often required go toward dangerous situations in which others are fleeing. Even tasks that are deemed “routine” for law enforcement officers, for example, can result in serious harm. In fact, a sheriff’s deputy was recently killed in a work-related accident that happened in another state.
The incident reportedly happened just prior to 8 a.m. on a day in early July. Though some of the details of the incident remain unclear, a deputy and his partner reportedly pulled over a vehicle on an interstate for a traffic violation. After the trooper exited his vehicle, he was apparently struck by a passing motorist.
Unfortunately, the trooper passed away as a result of injuries suffered in the accident. Both his partner and the driver of the vehicle stopped for a traffic violation were taken to the hospital where they were treated and released. The crash, which is reportedly under investigation, caused “massive” traffic delays in the area.
Reports regarding the work-related accident indicate that the deceased trooper leaves behind two small children and his wife; now, they are left to continue their lives without their father and husband. Often, families in California and elsewhere who experience an unexpected loss such as this are unprepared for the emotional and financial consequences. Fortunately, states are required to provide workers’ compensation insurance benefits. While this will do little to help ease their grief, these benefits can ensure that their financial obligations are met, allowing them to focus on their recovery. An experienced professional can help them seek fair compensation from all available outlets.
