California woman caught in machine dies in workplace accident

Regardless of where a person works, he or she faces safety hazards while completing work-related tasks. Even though most workers and their employers are committed to safety, a workplace accident can still occur. Unfortunately, an accident in California has recently taken the life of a worker.

The incident reportedly happened on a day in late January. According to reports, the victim was a 33-year-old woman working at Del Ray Packing Company, a business that reports describe as a raisin factory. According to reports, the woman was working near a piece of machinery that breaks up bunches of raisins.

Unfortunately, her clothing reportedly became caught in a shaft, causing her to strike her head. Two co-workers noticed that she was in distress, stopped the machine and contacted rescue workers. However, she died at the scene.

The workplace accident is being investigated by the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health. If it is determined that safety or health violations played a role in the accident, the company could face fines, citations or both. In the meantime, the woman’s family is now left to cope with the news of an unexpected and preventable loss. Because of the potential for accidents such as this, employers in California and across the nation are required to provide workers’ compensation insurance coverage that can help victims cope with the financial consequences of such an event, including funeral expenses and lost wages if it results in fatality such as in this incident. To help surviving family members seek a fair settlement, many seek guidance from professionals who have experience with the compensation process.
