Get the facts about traumatic occupational injuries

If you work in California, you know how crucial it is to stay safe. Accidents can happen at any place and at any time. It’s essential to wear correct safety gear and to follow all of the approved rules. Failure to do so can result in an injury that can change the quality of your life for the worse. Here are some safety facts you need to keep in mind.

The three leading causes of injuries at work

The three most common causes of work-related injuries were listed as contact with objects and equipment, negative bodily reactions to overexertion, and slips and trips, with or without a fall. 64% of the injuries treated in emergency wards were suffered by male employees. The rate of injuries suffered at work that were treated in an emergency ward was listed as 156 per 100,000 full-time workers.

You should also be aware that these accidents suffered at work were a major drain on the economy. A full 27% of the 888,220 nonfatal work injuries recorded over the last year have resulted in days away from work. The vast majority of these injuries to workers were listed as the result of slips, trips, and falls.

Collisions with objects and equipment were common

Of the three most common work injuries listed above, many were listed as repetitive stress injuries. Much of this has to do with the failure on the part of management to teach their workers proper safety techniques.

Also of note were the 229,410 injuries that were suffered due to contact with objects and equipment. Many of these were so severe that they resulted in workers missing many days off from work. A further 1,270 U.S. workers were killed in crashes involving motor vehicles at their place of employment.
