Workers’ compensation: 2 officers seriously injured in crash
Police officers in California and across the country have difficult jobs. Often, they are required to speed toward dangers. While most everyone knows the importance of yielding to emergency vehicles with flashing lights engaged, not everyone does it all the time. In fact, two police officers in another state were recently injured and may qualify for workers’ compensation insurance benefits after reports indicate a driver failed to yield to them.
The incident happened on a day in early June. According to reports, the officers, ages 23 and 25, were responding to reports of shots fired. Unfortunately, they reportedly crashed head-on with a dump truck driven by a 22-year-old male in an intersection.
Police claim that surveillance footage shows all of the other vehicles in the intersection yielding to the officers. Both are said to have suffered head injuries but have since been stabilized at the hospital. The driver of the dump truck — who is believed to have been working at the time and does not have a driver’s license — is also stable. Police expect that he will face several citations as a result of the accident.
Though the police officers could ultimately choose to file a personal injury lawsuit against the driver and his employer, they may also qualify for workers’ compensation benefits. These benefits can help them cope with the costs of medical treatment as well as ease the burden often created by lost wages. Many in California who deserve such benefits often ask an experienced professional to help them seek a fair settlement.
