California Highway Patrol officer injured in accident

When some people in California think about dangerous occupations, the first one that comes to mind is often that of police officers. Officers are frequently required to go toward dangerous situations when most people are running away from them. Unfortunately, one law enforcement officer was recently injured in a work accident involving a collision.

The incident happened during the late night hours of a day in late June. According to reports, the officer was trying to help a driver whose vehicle had broken down. Afterward, he attempted to re-enter traffic when he was allegedly sideswiped by a vehicle that reports claim was traveling at a high rate of speed.

Police say that the officer suffered injuries to his lower body; those injuries are described as "moderate to major." Fortunately, they are not believed to be life-threatening. The driver of the vehicle that allegedly struck him could face criminal charges, including driving under the influence.

If the accident was caused by the other driver's negligence, the California Highway Patrol officer may choose to file a personal injury lawsuit. However, those who are injured in a work accident are often entitled to workers' compensation insurance benefits. These benefits can cover a variety of different costs associated with a work-related injury, including medical bills and lost wages; they can even provide for the costs of job retraining should injuries prevent victims from returning to work in the same capacity. Because most people are focused on their recovery after such an accident, they may choose to ask an attorney with experience with such cases to help them seek the compensation to which they are entitled.
